René Lacaze led the Tour des Cévennes by three minutes. On the last climb of stage eleven he took a drink, swerved across the road and died at the roadside. The doctor says strychnine. Somewhere in a race of eighty riders, someone handed it to him, and the only witness couldn't read the number.
